Swiss Locarno festival to screen ‘Here My Village’

The 74th Locarno Int’l Film Festival in Switzerland is to screen Iranian movie ‘Here My Village’.

The 74th Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland has been scheduled to screen Iranian movie ‘Here My Village’.

Written and directed by Abbas Aram, the movie will be shown at the Locarno Kids Screenings section, which offers films for children and teenagers with a special emphasis on works screening as national premieres, together with restored titles that help rediscover film history.

‘Here My Village’ tells the story of Farhad, a 12-year-old boy who is crazy about photos and magazines. He lives with his mother and his 6-year-old sister in a village. He lost his father 5 years ago due to a fatal disease.

Once he goes to the city with his family and becomes fascinated by a second-hand camera in the window of a shop. He works hard to buy the camera, but he doesn’t succeed, so he sells one of their sheep in order to buy the camera.

When his mother asks him to return the camera and refund the money, Farhad grabs the camera and runs away.

The movie won awards in four categories of the Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth in India, including Best Director and Best Story at the International Competition Feature section of the Indian event. It also received the CIFEJ Award (Best Feature Film) and Film Critic Circle India Award (FCCI).

The Locarno Film Festival is one of the four most prestigious European film festivals, held annually in the Swiss city of Lucarno since 1946.

Like most international film events, Locarno was forced to move its program online last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 2021 edition of the Locarno filmfest is slated for August 4-14.
